Actor Yohann Chopin by photographer Salvo Pavone EXCLUSIVELY for Eroticco Magazine.

Thank you for taking time to speak with us today. Tell us about your journey and what inspired you to become an actor?
Thank you for having me! Becoming an actor came very early for me. I remember that moment vividly. I was eight. I was watching tv with my parents and my three other siblings and the experience of sharing felt emotions through a film was a wake-up call. We all reacted differently to the scene but we were all moved. That’s the power of an actor. To move people. I knew that’s what I wanted to do. To become an actor, to move people, to make them feel. Every time I was going to the theatre or coming out of a good film, that feeling was amplified to a point that I knew that it was the only thing I wanted to do.

What do you find most satisfying about acting?
The transformation, the discovery of a new character, the journey to take it from a script onto the screen or a stage, to make it your own. There is always something new to learn.

The feeling of being part of a cast in and out of the stage or a film set. The interactions you have with them. When you get along with your scene partner, creation has no end and it’s so much fun. That’s why we say «we play», we don’t work. It works in French too, «je joue».

Who has influenced you as an artist and why?
I don’t think I can summarize all my influences and make them justice. The movie «Elephant» by Gus Van Sant had a huge impact. I physically couldn’t leave my seat. The poetry, the subtle details, the cinematography. In my hometown, Brest Brittany in France, the film was screened in a very small theatre. They didn’t even have a poster for it. I did 400km to get it (2003 no Amazon at the time!). I put it up in my room and it was like a beacon of hope. Somewhere in the world, someone was making films I wanted to do too. I’ve seen all of his films.
At the university, I did English literature studies and I fell in love with Shakespeare, Wordsworth and Jane Austen. I’m easily moved by words. I can’t tell you how many times I read «Pride & Prejudice» or watched the film with Keira Knightley. It would be embarrassing.
The works of Maupassant, Truffaut, François Ozon, Chopin or painters like Monet, Gustave Courbet or Jansson etc…, they all made me feel something strong and pushed me to surpass myself. I could see passion and heart in their work and it helps me to thrive in mine.
The very first person who helped me create the artist I am today is my grandmother. She is a painter and a true artist at heart but she lived in a different time where she couldn’t express herself. She gave me that spark. I’m ready to turn it into a fire.

Can you share any word of wisdom to aspiring actors?
It’s a tough business. Surround yourself with good people you can count on. When you have to challenge yourself for your work but also personally more than any other job in the world, it grounds me to have those people who know me so well they can tell when my drama is BS or legit and give a little kick in the right direction.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Rome was not made in a day!
